  • 1 1/4 yd outside fabric
  • 1 1/4 yd inside fabric
  • 2 large buttons
  • 6 inches of Velcro
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Bobbin
  • Pins

Directions

Cutting Instructions:

From Outside Fabric:

  • (1) 36x41” rectangle
  • (1) 6”x8” rectangle for flap

From Inside Fabric:

  • (1) 36x41” rectangle
  • (2) 8.5”x10” rectangles for straps
  • (1) 6”x8” rectangle for flap

Velcro

  • (2) 3” strips

Assembling the Main Canopy:

  1. Place the 36”x41” outside fabric and inside fabrics right sides together and round the corners.
  2. Mark a 4 inch section along one of the edges for turning it right side out.
  3. Sew ¼” from the edge around the rounded rectangle- leaving the 4 inch marked section unsewn.
  4. Turn and press, pinning your gap closed.  Top stitch.

Assembling the Straps:

  1. Take one 8.5”x10” rectangle for the strap and fold it, right sides together, making a 4.5” x 10” piece.
  2. Sew ¼” from the edge around the rectangle, leaving a gap on the long edge unsewn (this will be used to turn the piece right sides out).
  3. Clip the corners and turn right side out.  Press. Top stitch.
  4. Take one 3” piece of Velcro and separate.  Sew to the short end of the strap, about an inch from the end.  Sew the coordinating piece to the other end- making sure that it is positioned on the correct side for it to Velcro together when around the top of the car seat handle.
  5. Attach button, by hand, on the section of the strap that will be on the stop of the car seat handle.
  6. Repeat to complete the second strap.

Assembling the Flap:

  1. Place the two 6 X 8 inch rectangles right sides together. Sew ¼” from the edge, leaving an inch gap for turning.
  2. Clip the corners, turn right side out, and press.  Top stitch.

Assembling the Window:

  1. On your main outside fabric, measure 14.5” in and 14.5” up. This is where you’ll mark out your window. Using disappearing ink, draw a 2” X 4” rectangle. Then, draw a 3” X 5” rectangle around the small one. Draw a line connecting the corners of your big and small rectangle.
  2. Cut out the small rectangle. Then, cut along the lines that connected the corners. Make sure you don’t go past your outline of the large rectangle.
  3. Turn the edges of the small rectangle in, using the large rectangle as your guide. Press well and pin. Top stitch.

Adding the Flap:

  1. Center the flap over the window, placing it ½” above the opening. Pin in place.
  2. Sew along the top of the rectangle only to attach to canopy.

Adding the Straps:

  1. Get car seat and measure where the straps should go.  Pin in place. (Usually it will be about 20” up and 12” in.)  Sew to canopy.
